Stephen Barber is a Research Professor in Film and Photography in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Kingston University, London and a Research Fellow at the Free University Berlin.

He has written widely on experimental film, urban space and cinema, film and performance, digital arts, and on Japanese and European art film movements.

His books include Performance Projections (2014), Muybridge: The Eye in Motion (2012), Abandoned Images: Film and the End (2010), The Vanishing Map (2006), and Projected Cities (2002). He is currently working on a book about the film projects of the Japanese artist Tatsumi Hijikata.
