Martine Beugnet is Professor in Visual Studies at the Université de Paris VII, Diderot.

Her research centres on film aesthetics, film and philosophy, avant-garde and experimental film, and the relationship between the arts.

She has published four monographs: Sexualité, marginalité, controle: cinéma français contemporain (Harmattan, 2000); Claire Denis (MUP, 2004); Proust at the Movies (Ashgate, 2005) (with Marion Schmid); Cinema and Sensation: French Film and the Art of Transgression (Edinburgh University Press, 2007). She is currently working on an edited collection entitled Indefinite Vision (EUP).
