Her research profile spans the inter-related areas of philosophy and visual studies (avant-garde art, photography and cinema). She has written on French Cinema in relation to Deleuze’s time-image theory, on the interaction between theatre performance and film, on realism (Bazin) and the New Wave.
In 2010 she was invited to contribute as one of only four international advisors to the major Surrealist retrospective organised at the Barbican Arts Centre in London (June-September 2010). On this occasion, she wrote five short essays on French cinema and Surrealist architecture for the exhibition catalogue (The Surreal House, Yale University Press, 2010).
She is the author of À bout de souffle (2013) andConceptions of the Absurd: From Surrealism to the Existential Thought of Chestov and Fondane (2001). Her new book Pictures of the Mind: Surrealist Photography and Film is forthcoming in 2016.
